Holy Days as announced on the Calendar of Events

Holy Baptism
Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. Each candidate for Holy Baptism is to be sponsored by one or more baptized persons. In the case of young infants, the parents should be active baptized members of St. Paul’s Church. Baptisms occur on the dates recommended by the Book of Common Prayer. The Rector should be contacted regarding baptisms of adults, children and infants so that instruction may be scheduled for preparation. Private baptisms are done only in case of medical emergency.

Holy Matrimony
Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant performed in the presence of God. In the Episcopal Church, it is required that one, at least, of the parties be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that the marriage conform to the laws of the State of Michigan and Canons of the Episcopal Church. In addition, at least one of the parties must be a member of the Episcopal Church or the couple must indicate the intention of becoming members of the Church. The couple must then arrange times for pre-marital counseling with the Rector. If either has been married to a former spouse still living, permission for remarriage must be obtained from the Episcopal Bishop of Michigan after consulting with and upon petition from the Rector. Marriage ceremonies conform to the rite set forth in the Book of Common Prayer rather than the customs or preferences of secular and social customs. Weddings will not be scheduled during the season of Lent or Holy Week.

Funerals
Most often, the clergy will be aware of a pending death and provide the ministrations of the Church to the dying and their families. If this is not the case, the clergy need to be notified of a death immediately. It is desirable that a member of St. Paul’s be buried from the Church. Some may wish to have cremated ashes placed in the Brownell Memorial Garden. The Rector must be notified and consulted before any funeral service is scheduled in the Church. If the family would like to have a lunch or reception after the service, our Holy Spirit Hall may be available to host it.  The Rector can provide information on coordinating this with our kitchen manager.
